Fixodent Lawsuit

Denture Creams are used to fix ill-fitting dentures of false teeth in place. Fixodent is a brand of denture cream used to seal the gap between the denture and the gums. The side effects of the ingredients used in such creams is not so well known.

Zinc is a major chemical used in denture creams. The human body requires a minimum amount of Zinc for a balanced diet. The recommended daily level of Zinc which can be ingested is about 15 milligrams. When the level of Zinc crosses 40 milligrams, it becomes toxic and leads to Hyperzincemia or Zinc overdose. This leads to Hypocupremia or depletion of Copper in the body, which in turn gives rise to a host of medical complications, such as Anemia, Neuropathy, loss of balance, etc.

The American Association of Neurology has carried out a study on Fixodent denture cream and has identified Zinc concentration from 17000 to 34000 µg/g. When Copper gets depleted in the body, it results in Demyelination or removal of Myelin, an insulating sheath over the nerves. This causes serious neurological complications such as Wilson’s disease according to a publication of the Neurological Society of India. Often, irreversible disorders to the nervous system such as spastic Dysarthria, a speech characterized by echolalia and occasional outbursts of panic, occur. Unfortunately, the symptoms associated with Hyperzincemia are often initially (mis)diagnosed as Multiple Sclerosis until it is too late.

Dozens of law suits have been filed against Procter and Gamble, the manufacturer of Fixodent by affected users for failure to warn people about the dangers of chronic usage od denture cream and its resultant Zinc poisoning. If you know someone who exhibits symptoms similar to those stated above, immediately consult a physician and request to investigate denture cream usage as a possible cause. 3. Two years ago I got new dentures which caused me to use Polident or Fixident because of ill fitting. About this time I was ending up in the E.R. with infection such as bladder & other infections. When blood test were taken it was found I had low white blood count & am now taking a shot of Filgrastin-450MCG once a week. My blood count veries when taken once a month but has never been higher than 4.5 & usually in the 3.??’s We feel now that we have learned of this denture adhesive, that there may be a connection to the low white blood cell count.

  4. My mother, age 87, has feelings of numbness in her forehead that is constant and it does not go away. She has been using Fixodent for more than 25 years. The doctor does not know the reason for her problem.

  5. I need someone to take my case I can not walk because of it…PLZ HELP!!!!

  6. I started to wear partial denture-approx. 1998; now full dentures top and bottom. Since that time (1998) I’ve used fixodent and polident even if it meant nausea, stomach upset, gagging, altered food taste. While I am a diabetic I wonder the exaggerated amount of zinc in both of those propducts contributed to the neuropathy of my eyes, feet and legs; and also the fact that afer a couple of falls due to feeling imbalanced I’m now walking with a walker.
